Our localities

On 1 April 2020, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Groups merged and became a single commissioning organisation. We compiled a BSW CCG Benefits of merging report that captures some of the benefits of merging.

By joining forces, we are able to reduce variation in care and standardise best practice across BSW, so that everyone in the region receives high quality treatment, regardless of where they live.

We value the diversity of our growing population, but we know there are huge social and economic inequalities and differences across BSW. To ensure that the health and care services we commission meet the needs of the many different communities living across BSW, we have three "localities". This means that our decision-making can be influenced and governed by GPs and other health care professionals who know and understand their local demographic.

In addition to the differing ways that people living in different areas access NHS services, there are a number of other factors that impact on our health and wellbeing, such as housing, transport, and education. These factors all play a part in determining how healthy we are, but can vary depending on where we live; buses may run more frequently to hospitals from city centres than rural areas, for example.

By retaining a locality focus we are able to work together, including with the three councils and hospitals, to join up health and care across BSW and empower people to lead their best life.

Hover over the images and use the arrows below to find out more about our three localities.
