Engaging local people on our five year plan

In Summer 2019, system partners, with support from Healthwatch, launched a campaign to ask for people’s views on what keeps them happy and healthy to inform the BSW five-year plan.

Over 2,500 people participated and shared their views on access to services, health and care priorities and perceived impact of lifestyle and behaviours on wellbeing. The results informed providers’ forward plan and the system five-year plan.

We worked with people and communities across our geography with a focus on Polish and Arabic speaking communities, young people and people with a learning disability.

The survey results, alongside separate findings collected by independent health champion Healthwatch as part of the What Would You Do? campaign, were used to develop a local five year plan for health and care services as a local response and implementation plan for the NHS’s own national Long Term Plan.

The BSW plan for health and care 2020 - 2024 reflects the views and feedback given by local people and outlines a blueprint for integrated health and care services in BSW.

The plan outlines the top priorities for people in BSW including helping people to stay healthy and independent in old age, offering more help for those with learning disabilities and improving access to mental health services.

The plan also sets out we will empower people to improve their own health, help GP surgeries to work more closely together and reduce variation in care and services offered by the area’s three hospitals.
