Minor Injury Unit (MIU)
MIUs are run by experienced clinicians and are available to treat non-life-threatening injuries, such as:
- sprains and strains
- broken bones
- wound infections
- minor burns and scalds
- minor head injuries
- insect and animal bites
- minor eye injuries
- injuries to the back, shoulder and chest
MIUs cannot treat any minor illnesses, such as stomach pains, mild allergic reactions or pregnancy problems. Babies under one cannot be treated at MIUs.
With current pandemic restrictions, you cannot visit an MIU directly. If you have a non-life-threatening injury, go online or call NHS 111 and they will help you to get the right treatment, including arranging a time for you to visit an MIU if necessary.
When should you use the service?
- If you need treatment for a non-life-threatening injury
- For adults and children over the age of one
